I remember in my salad days when I lived in New York City, a friend of mine, who happened to be a native of the Tarheel state, passed along a bit of advice (and a phrase) that has stuck with me all these years: “Don’t complain and don’t explain.” This is one of those old saws that most of us (including myself) could use every day.
