Today, a book I have been waiting to arrive in my mailbox for months finally came! It’s the story of my dear friends, Linda and Millard Fuller, founders of Habitat for Humanity International and more recently, The Fuller Center for Housing (www.fullercenter.org) in Americus, Georgia.
Their new book, “The House That Love Built” is authored by a Pulitzer prize-nominee, Bettie B.Youngs, Ph.D. I am already looking forward to next weekend, so I can snuggle up in my favorite chair and read the remaining chapters.
I learned about the new book five months ago when Dr. Youngs sent me several chapters and asked me to write an endorsement. Of course, I was honored to do it because my relationship with Linda and Millard go back many years. Frank and I featured this remarkable couple in our very first book, “Simple Living,” which was published 15 years ago this month. Then in the early 2000s, Linda served on the board as we were beginning to develop our television series. (You may remember that we brought the Fullers to Mount Airy to film them in one of the first segments.)
The Fullers are such a stellar example of simplifying their life-style in order to save their failing marriage and inject meaning into their work and lives. And, as a result of dedicating their lives to “love in action,” thousands of affordable houses have been built by tens of thousands of volunteers all over the world for low-income families.
To find out more about “The House that Love Built” and order this remarkable work, go to www.fullercenter.org. While you’re there, be sure to check out the latest chapter in Linda and Millard’s life—and the great work they’re doing (after they left Habitat) at The Fuller Center for Housing, which they founded in 2005.
