Happy Birthday, Henry! My Henry is 10 years old today. I tell him that the next time his age changes digits will be in the year 2097, when he turns 100.
Ten is quite a milestone! When I asked him earlier today how he felt about turning 10, he thought for a moment, then said he was glad to be “more mature.” But meanwhile, he’s loving the series of birthday parties being thrown in his honor.
With every birthday comes a little change—the recognition that life stands still for no one. But the decades are the biggest milestones. Ten means he’s no longer a little kid; he’s old enough to be maturing into his own personhood, and what a great and complex person his is. Happy Birthday, Henry!
Together, we wonder what the world will be like in 2097. Here’s wishing him “sto lat” as the Poles say—or 100 years!
