Today we screened the rough cut of our “Overcoming Obesity” community outreach video for Bob Newton, head of the Moses Cone-Wesley Long Community Health Foundation of Greensboro, NC. The video—which will be made available to community groups around Guilford County in the coming weeks—is chock full of helpful tips about ways to combat this tremendous problem. In addition to exercise, one of the great ways to fight overeating is by “food sequencing.” This is an idea introduced on the program by Dr. Bert Fields, Family Practice Residency Director for the Moses Cone Health System of Greensboro. Dr. Fields says that if you eat four servings each of fruits and vegetables every day, you will never get fat. By food sequencing, he means you eat these fibrous items first, and they will fill you, robbing you of the desire to stuff yourself with heavy proteins, cheeses, desserts and the like. Great idea! So when you next sit down to breakfast, lunch or dinner, start with an apple, or broccoli, or something healthful and filling.
