Wanda's Diary Entries

Last night Henry took charge in the condo by hauling out the old Christmas decorations and making magic around the place. He found old construction-paper creations that he’d made in earlier grades and school years and hung them on the front door. He hung a reindeer from the door between the master bedroom and bath. (The reindeer’s antlers are brown construction paper cutouts of Henry’s fingers.) He continued decorating the wonderful cedar tree that Frank cut from the orchard. When Frank hauled it in on Sunday night, he reminded us that his father, Sam Levering, had told him that cedar trees were detrimental to the appearance of apples, creating russet. Frank was mindful of his late father’s words when he cut this tall limb of the cedar tree, without destroying the tree itself. Every year we say this, but this year it’s true: this is the most beautiful tree ever!
