Frank, Henry and I just returned from a wonderful week long trip to California. It was a great melange of a trip—Bob Wells came with us for the first several days where we studied filmmaking with a talented and generous man named Tom Weidlinger. Then on Wednesday, Bob flew back to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with his family, while Frank, Henry and I divided the day on Thursday between bagels and sandwiches with my cousins, Dan and Mary Smith, at their house on Stinson Beach, and Frank’s and my dear friend from Cambridge days, Krysia Lindan, in Menlo Park. We spent the morning with the Smiths and their large, lively family watching hang gliders and catching up, and the afternoon with dear friend Krysia, who put together a great feast, including the most beautiful turkey I’ve ever seen. Krysia’s 14-year-old daughter, Olivia, was a big helper and lots of fun, sharing tales of her soccer games (she’s goalie for her high school team). We had a feast of friends, learning and good old California weather. Our time in the Bay Area brought back memories of Frank’s and my life in Southern California almost twenty years ago. Reconnecting with old friends like Krysia and Olivia and the Smiths and creating new bonds with Tom and his lovely wife Jan made the week exceptional.
