Today Mother invited Frank and me over to her condo to have lunch with her first cousin, Ellie Bradsher, and her husband, Bob Bradsher. They live in Oxford, North Carolina, where the Bradshers have long owned and operated an insurance agency, Mitchell Insurance. Bob is the former mayor of Oxford and what a delightful, insightful character he is. We relished our hour and 15 minutes together, catching up and comparing notes over ice tea, tuna salad sandwiches, and fruit salad. Bob and Ellie had driven two and a half hours from Oxford to Mount Airy to pick Mother up and then drive her back to Oxford. There she’ll spend the night with the Bradshers, and they will be picked up by another first cousin, who lives in Raleigh. Then four first cousins from the Mitchell family will get together and drive in a van to Winchester, Virginia to visit with another first cousin, whom they haven’t seen in decades. What a wonderful opportunity for them to be together, and Frank and I are happy to have been a part of it.
