I read a wire-service story in last week’s Winston-Salem Journal that some European communities are getting together to try to prevent the spread of Halloween, American-style. Apparently all the decorations, candy and costumes are making their march to the Continent and causing consternation amongst some prudent Europeans. I must say that their caution is well placed. Halloween’s a good fun time, but we better watch out for too many trappings. How about getting back to making kids’ costumes, using our creativity, and making decorations out of cast-off items? That’s a lot more fun!
