I spoke with my friend and accountant Hattie at the end of last week as she was getting ready for her older daughter’s wedding this past weekend. And Hattie was happy. Not just at the fact that it was all coming together, but because her daughter, Tara, now in her mid-20s is taking her advice! Tara drives a mid-90s model Geo Tracker. The vehicle broke down recently and Tara called her mother to report that she and her fiance had decided to “put Black Beauty down,” as Hattie mentioned. Hattie suggested that before taking that drastic step, Tara might want to look into the cost of repair. Tara listened. The repair bill was less than $300 and now she has the vehicle and no monthly payment. Hattie was beaming through the phone line when she related this story to me. The proof of positive parenting, she seemed to say, is when your child asks your advice and then takes it.
