I had the good fortune of meeting Pilar Gerasimo, editor of Experience Life magazine, on one of my many trips to Minneapolis last year. She is a bright, talented, appealing young woman who lights up a room with her sunny personality and dazzling insight. For several years now, Pilar has informed the editorial content of her magazine with her advocacy of simpler, more sustainable lifestyles and in shedding light on the disturbing cycle experienced by so many Americans today of the work-spend-and-neglect-oneself treadmill. Experience Life magazine advocates fitness for its readers, but also improvement in one’s overall lifestyle. I’ve seen Pilar several times since that first meeting—most recently when she came to Mount Airy to shoot a segment called “Earth Gym” for the ninth show of our new season. Though every obstacle to positive morale was thrown at her that would have shaken a lesser guest (missing her flight from Minneapolis to Charlotte, NC; breaking the heel of her shoe before giving a presentation at our Rotary Club in Mount Airy; and being overcome by an allergy to ragweed which made shooting at the orchard challenging), Pilar rose to the occasion. She positively sparkles on the segment (viewers will never guess that she was sleep deprived the night before the shoot) and she managed to wow the
Mount Airy Rotarians, many of whom have taken out subscriptions to her magazine.
