Pat Gwyn Woltz
Artist, Civic Leader, Mount Airy, NC
Pat Gwyn Woltz is a civic leader, generous philanthropist and artist in Mount Airy, NC. She moved to Mount Airy in 1947 and has taught Sunday school at Central United Methodist Church ever since. In 2000 she was awarded “Layman of the Year” by the Board of Trustees of her church. Woltz served on the Board of Trustees for the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History and served twenty-three years on Crossroads, the Surry County board of mental health.
Not only was she a momentous supporter at the beginnings of Simple Living, but she also helped initiate the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center and the Surry Community College Foundation Board Emeritus. She was on the Board of Trustees of The Children’s Home in Winston-Salem and serves on the United Fund Board. In 1992 she was awarded the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Community Service and in 2003 she was awarded Citizen of the Year.
Woltz graduated from St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, NC and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, VA with a degree in economics. In 1983, as a result of many requests, she started an art business selling originals, note cards and Limited Edition Prints in gift shops and at arts and crafts Shows. Woltz is the mother of five and was married to the late John Woltz.
