Frances Moore Lappe

Frances Moore Lappé is the author or co-author of fifteen books, including the 1971 bestseller Diet for a Small Planet. Another one of her books, Democracy’s Edge (Jossey-Bass, Fall 2005) argues that to save the democracy we thought we had, we must take democracy to where it’s never been. She describes an emergent “living democracy” embracing economic and social as well as political life.
A founder of two national organizations focused on food and the roots of democracy, Lappé created the American News Service (1995-2000), which placed solutions-oriented news stories in over 300 newspapers nationwide.
